Message from the President of SONUH

oday, I reaffirm the commitment of the Somali National Union of Healthcare Workers (SONUH) to protecting the rights, dignity, and welfare of all healthcare workers in Somalia.

Healthcare workers are the backbone of our health system and play a vital role in saving lives, protecting communities, and contributing to national development. Their dedication must be matched by fair wages, safe working environments, social protection, job security, and respect for their fundamental labour rights.

As President of SONUH, I believe that meaningful dialogue, strong trade union representation, and cooperation with government institutions, employers, and international partners are essential to addressing the challenges facing our healthcare workforce.

We remain committed to strengthening trade union solidarity, promoting decent work, and advocating for better working conditions and a stronger, more equitable healthcare system for all Somalis.

I call upon all relevant stakeholders to recognize healthcare workers not only as service providers but as essential professionals whose rights, welfare, and dignity must be protected.

Together, through unity, dialogue, and collective action, we can build a future in which healthcare workers are respected, empowered, and adequately supported.

Hamdi Hashi
President
Somali National Union of Healthcare Workers (SONUH)
